Naming
The founders of Tipsi initially came to us with a name that limited their brand, as it specifically referenced food and wine pairings. Since the company’s long term vision went far beyond pairings, we chose a name that combined the idea of expert tips with the positive effects of drinking wine.
Branding
Instead of focusing on the wine bottle shapes and sommelier illustrations, we designed the brandmark for simplicity. We created a logotype as well as an "T" symbol for use in smaller brand applications like the AppStore icon. We also chose an energetic color palette, inspired by the various hues and varietals of wine.
Iconography
As we moved into the design phase, we developed a visual slider to filter wine and food types. Since we knew this would be an essential part of the app, we created a set of food types and wine style icons to complement the branding.
Application Design
The Tipsi design centered on a simple and engaging user flow. To achieve this, we evolved the filtering of a simple list into a more visually appealing slider design.
In Development
After cleaning and prepping our production files, we handed off the designs to be developed. The team is currently hard at work, and we're excited to soon be able to download Tipsi in the iTunes App Store.
Nelson Cash was the exception to the rest of our application building experience. They gave clear deadlines, came in under budget and assembled a working product that completely surpassed our expectations.
